What’s Happening at Wooford Playing Fields?
Laugharne Community Sports Association (LCSA) is working on a big plan to improve the playing fields for everyone in the community — not just sports clubs, but schools,
families, and residents too.
What’s the Vision?
LCSA wants to turn Wooford Playing Fields into a medium sized community hub — a place for sport, social events, and wellbeing.
The goals:
- Better health and wellbeing through sport.
- Facilities for all ages and interests.
- Support for local schools and youth.
- Financial sustainability through partnerships and events.
What’s are the options?
Here’s some of the options LCSA would like the Community to consider:
- New clubhouse/pavilion with changing rooms, meeting spaces, and a social lounge.
- All-weather pitch for year-round.
- Bowls Green for all ages.
- 82-space car park to ease matchday traffic.
- Redesigned rugby and cricket pitches.
- Cricket & golf practice nets.
- Bar/social area for community events.
Who’s Involved?
LCSA is made up of:
- Laugharne RFC
- Laugharne Cricket Club
- Laugharne Corporation
- Laugharne Township Council
- Laugharne Primary School
- Independent community members
They meet monthly and are working together to make this happen.
Why Now & When?
- The original 2008 plan for community facilities was never delivered.
- A later housing application in 2017 excluded community benefits and caused concern.
- In 2023, the developer proposed a new plan including school expansion and sports facilities — supported by hundreds of residents.
- That plan was refused by the council and is now under appeal.
- LCSA are now asking the community to support them by sumbitting their comments on here.
- In the new year it is hoped to hold a Community Consultation, so all options can be considered.
How Can You Help?
LCSA is now requesting the Community to support the planning application and have their say on the refusal, so click the RED link and sumbit your comments now.
